Drone with a multi-copter and fixed-wing configuration capable of waypoint navigation using GPS
Video Overview:
Goals
In addition to stoking the joy that making things and flying drones provides me, I wanted to explore the use of common flight controllers in piloting and autonomous navigation of VTOL technology. I also felt it would be a challenging task that combined my mechanical engineering ability with my interest in aerospace, expanding my abilities in both. Moreover, it allowed me to explore various designs for VTOL, which has always interested me, before settling on which one I thought would be best for my drone. This project was also a fun way to challenge myself, building on my passions and previous experiences.
Manufacturing and Assembly
3D printing prototypes for the tilt mechanism and other parts
Wings and fuselage, maching them on my CNC using EPS foam
Electronics mounted inside the fuselage using hot glue and two-sided tape
